Mio - Deb's Day Off - Bill's Stoned
Two's company and three's a crowd. Bill was my best friend during the 1980's. He drove a motorcycle and I flew airplanes. Not bad hobbies when meeting girls. But Bill fell in love before I did. And he took a six-month sabbatical from his advertising job to go to Paris to paint and he took Debby with him. After several months, he called me and invited me over. I took a two-week vacation and the three of us roamed France, Germany, Austria, and Italy. It was the best of times, and it was the worst of times. Although we partied till it hurt, viewed some of the greatest western art on the planet, and relaxed on quiet evenings contemplating life, tension grew. To this day I can't put a finger on it. Probably for the same reason it's difficult to articulate why great friendships begin. After we returned, I was compelled to capture the core of our personalities and the magic of moment - so it would last forever. I had taken hundreds of slides. Two of the paintings are replicas of the image - something I rarely do. The other is a composition. Can you tell which one? |
